Description of onsite activity options

Exergame Stations:  Exergaming is where Video games meet sport... It's the combination of the verb "to exercise" and games. It's just video games where you move your body to play... increasing both the fun and usefulness of what you're doing! Exergames have one element of exercise and one element of gaming.  Examples of Exergame stations include: DDR, Boxing, Running, Snowboarding, Cooking, Racing, wii play sports and wii fit.  For larger group events Exerbikes are potentially available.  ** Some AV Equipment may need to be provided by the school.

Circuit training:  Circuit training is a high-intensity cardiovascular workout combined with resistance exercises.  This type of workout is often set up in a series of stations, stopping only briefly before each exercise to keep your heart rate within a safe, but effective training range.  The set up for kids usually consists of 15-30 stations of 30 seconds to 1 minute, alternating cardiovascular exercises and resistance (strength) exercises.  This routine  lasts 30 minutes, or can be extended or repeated for an hour workout where the stations are up to 3 minutes long and combine several exercises.

Functional fitness training (FFT):  FFT is extremely beneficial in day-to-day activities, coordination development, sports development and injury prevention; not to mention children and teens love it!  Functional exercises simulate movement and activities of daily living involved in our daily routines such as; bending, reaching, balancing, walking, turning/twisting, picking things up and putting them down, pushing, pulling, multi-directional movement and moving with eyes closed.  Workouts contain dumbbells, medicine balls, tubes, bands, weighted balls, weighted body bars, balance disks, gliding disks, stability balls, mini hurdles, agility, cones, jump ropes, steps, power endurance exercises and plyometric exercises in an attempt to condition the body in all types of environments.  This can be done in a station or group format.

Group training:  Group training is often implemented for groups of 50 or more in one gym.  Each participant does the same exercise simultaneously throughout the workout.  For example:  “Roll the dice” and exercise card activities:  all participants jog the perimeter of the gym for 2-3 minutes, instructor blows the whistle and selects a student to “roll the dice” and another to pick a card, whatever number it lands on represents the number of repetitions for the matched exercise, such as 10 pushups.  Once the exercise is complete, the students begin their jog again and the sequence continues with exercises for each muscle group.  **The only equipment needed for this activity is foam or homemade dice, and exercise cards.

Station Training:  Up to 15 stations can be set-up in one gym.  Each station has a different piece of exercise equipment and represents a different exercise.  Each station consists of 4-10 students (depending on the total number of participants).  The students perform the exercises at each station for 1 minute before rotating to the next one.  The stations consist of both strength and cardiovascular exercises.  We usually make it through 3-rounds before cooling down and stretching.

Line Drills:  Line drills are very effective with very large groups (60-100).  Each line has up to 16 students (across the gym) and 6 rows deep (96 students).  Each line performs a different activity (6 activities in each round) for one minute, than rotates to the line behind them.  We usually get through 4-5 rounds per 1-hour session.  The exercises change with every round.

Cardio class routine:  Cardio routine simply represents 30 minutes of continuous cardiovascular activities followed by 30 minutes of resistance exercises.   This can be utilized in small groups or large group format.

Fees:  Classes can be provided for free, on trade, or for a fee – flat rate or per child based on number of attendees.  Rates are determined by number of staff required at $15 per hour, and number of stations or activities provided.  Trade is offered for sponsorship and promotional opportunities.
